Humor: Does Linux make you fat?
To our knowledge the image below is from a presentation last week by Craig Ross, one of the Ottawa Linux Symposium organizers.
Either Linux does make you fat or maybe it has grown up (a bit).

Politics: The opening statements of the “Constitutional Limits of Executive Power” committee
The House Judiciary Committee yesterday held a hearing titled “Executive Power and Its Constitutional Limitations”.
While almost every speaker tried to express that this is “not a Bush impeachment hearing” it was setup to examine legal and legislative responses to allegations of misconduct and expansions of executive powers by the Bush administration.
In short there has been at least a committee put into place to speak up on these outrageous things that have deteriorated the standing and reputation of the US around the globe.
While we do understand the anger of the millions of Americans, particularly of those who lost their husbands, wives and children in a “war” for Oil and Trillions of Dollars “for the boys” and all those who have lost their homes, life’s work, pensions or possibility to get looked after when their ill, unfortunately history is telling us a rather crude and sad reality.
Many impeachment movements also of the very few (17) in the history of the US that…

Summermeter - How much of this summer is left
If you want to find out how much time of this summer is still left have a look at the Summermeter.
It tells you in percent of how much of this summer has already past. With 58% already passed, a pessimist might say soon you’ll leave home when its dark and come back when it’s dark again.
In some countries they make the best of it - in Finland for example - the whole country goes on leave during the month of July and all cities are basically deserted besides a (very) few unlucky people who have to remain to keep some essential functions going. Hospitals for example delay all not immediately essential operations into the the time after July.
The Finnish like their summer breaks so much that even between opposite political parties a sudden agreement / consensus takes place to…

USA: Congratulations on the one Millionth Terrorist
We have “recently reported” that Nobel Price Laureate Nelson Mandela has just - after years of diplomatic quarreling - been removed from the infamous US List of terrorist suspects.
Now this week ACLU is reporting another record related to this “list” - the list has just hit the size of one million records. Put this in relation to numbers reported on various other crimes from burglary to official war crime numbers together with the complete swipe of human / civil rights linked to that list and even a blind man should be able to see that there is something wrong here…

Quote of the day: Beyond Good and Evil
He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster.
And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.

NZ Boat Earthrace takes new world record for circumnavigation
This Friday at 14:24 CET when crossing the finishing line in Sagunto, Spain New Zealand’s Eco-Diesel boat “Earthrace” set a new world record for circumnavigation with powerboats.
With the new record time of 60 days, 23h:49min skipper Pete Bethune and his crew have shaved off almost 14 days from the previous record set by the British “Cable & Wireless” in 1998. After the failed first attempt to break the record last year when they had to abandon the run due to structural damages to the boat’s hull, this year’s attempt was not plagued with similar issues…

Video: Meglio Stasera
Friday night and most likely quite a few people during this shortest night of the year will try to live the underlying meaning of this great song.
Meglio Stasera composed by Henry Mancini for the 1963 film The Pink Panther and sung by young actress Fran Jeffries. The song exists in different versions and languages (English: It had better be tonight)…
