DIY: Create a HDR time-lapsed movie

link to article
So far San Francisco based photographer Chad Richard is one of the very few who create time-lapsed HDR movies. He uses the new Nikon D700 that allows to take up to 8fps full frame images and post-processes / blend the frames into HDR images with Photomatix. Photography: Branson DeCou Archive

link to article
Photographer Branson DeCou traveled the world for thirty years before his death in 1941. Since 1971, when the University of California - Santa Cruz received his huge slide collection it has been the home of the archive of photographer Branson DeCou.

Branson DeCou produced mainly lantern slides imprinted on glass twice as big as 35-mm slides, that made them delicate to handle and almost impossible for general or public use.

Thanks to a grant from the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation the UCSC could buy state-of-the-art scanning equipment and process 1,475 of the 10,000 DeCou slides in their collection.

The 1,475 slides processed and made available online are photographs that Branson DeCou took in Italy during several trips in the 1920s and early 1930s. They show scenes of daily life as well as artwork and destinations…

Best HDR images on the web: (Introduction)

link to article
We recently mentioned that one of us will soon be going on a long travel around this planet so we got a professional digital camera to capture some of the impressions and share them later.

During the research for the latest in Digital Photography we also came across what is now called High-Dynamic-Range (HDR or HDRI) photography and tone mapping.

There are a few pretty good tutorials on the web how to achieve these effects and software is now also available to substantially reduce the process steps required (If interested we can provide a list of the best links we found).

But we thought that it might be best to introduce this technique by pointing you to the best HDR images and their creators we found on the web.

So following this post we will put together a small series of articles for each of the web sites we found the most interesting…

Best News Picture Galleries on the Web

link to article
You can read your daily news online or via RSS but there is another way to get informed (and get your daily dose of news pictures). Major media agencies and news papers also provide daily or weekly updated news in pictures. Quite a few of them have even added spoken comments to the pictures so you get some background information together with the images. And often you get multiple images for a news story where otherwise only one of these pictures is included with a longer text. The services we included in the list below are the largest providers and often the source for other news and media sites. They cover news on a global level but some have also regional information. We have broken the list down into the following four sections (Daily picture sources, Weekly picture sources, Yearly picture awards and reviews, Historic and all time famous pictures)…
