Weekend activity: Create some paper toys

link to article
If its raining or its too cold (or too hot) or whichever other reason you have not to go outside here are some unusual paper toys that surely will impress your friends (or kids).

Many of these toys can be made with just a few sheets of paper, scissors and some tape, others like for example the the Paper Rose or Flower paper (see link section below) are more elaborate but should still be mastered by everyone.

The toys we chosen for this article are more like the ones you would create when you sit together with a group of friends or want to show your kids something old Daddy or Mom can do. There are of course many others that use templates to be printed on photo paper, cut with an art knife and then glued together. We provide links for these too…

US Credit Crisis: Fed borrowing shown as a chart

link to article
If you would like to see the “official version of how much money the Fed is pumping into banks and financial institutions recently, have a look at the chart below.

The gray shaded areas are times officially recognized as recessions. The underlying data is available at the St. Louis Fed web site together with a charting application that allows you to further customize the range and other parameters.

To better visualize the substantial change we have split the data into two charts:

The larger chart shows the borrowing from the FED for the period 1919 to 2007 and the smaller one data for 2008 only. As you can see during these almost 90 years borrowing remained continuously within a range of almost none to max 8 Billion USD per month.

Since the beginning of 2008 the numbers have drastically changed and are now at about 155 Billion USD per month. The monthly figures for 2008 in detail…

Every year in June the SNG in Geneva, that is also home to the current Americas Cup winner Alinghi, together with other sponsors, arranges Europe’s biggest lake regatta – the Bol d’Or. USA: The never ending story of money motivated war crimes in Iraq continues

What BBC’s popular political TV magazine Panorama yesterday night called the greatest heist in history or Daylight Robbery seems now to be going into another round of new discoveries.

In the more than one hour long broadcast Panorama’s Jane Corbin tells us some of the stories of those who became rich from the war and those who stood up against the crimes and “got burned”.

…If you believe that such corruption happens by pushing around brown envelopes with money under the table, sorry, but that might just be a very small part of it. We have compiled a short list of the most common activities identified within Iraq below. Some of them have also been mentioned in the report of Panorama yesterday night…

Duvet-Dayz: Some Upgrades completed

link to article
We finally have completed the first part of our complete web site overhaul last night and can now start over again to post stories and news on interesting things.

There are still many glitches and issues e.g. with white spaces and differences between IE and Firefox or other web browsers but these will be gone once our new layout will be released within the next days. So far we have implemented the underlying “plumbing” and because of issues with some of the plug-ins we used in the past we were forced to touch every post we have written in the past two years.

Anyway we hope that the new layout and features that are now possible will compensate for the wait. We are currently also evaluating if we will make some of the new features – particularly the semantic web features in the pipeline – available as plug-ins for public use.

Many thanks for your patience and sorry for the delays. From today on we will do what we hope will let you all come back frequently to Duvet-Dayz.com – put up new stories and news.
