Don’t forget that it is Firefox download day today - Mozilla’s attempt to get into the Guinness Book of record for the most software downloads in 24 hours.
And expect that it might take some time until you’ll be able to download the new version of Firefox (see below)
“Starting at midnight in their local timezones, downloaders have been asking when Firefox 3 will be ready for Firefox Download Day, June 17, 2008. Mary announced on the Spread Firefox Forum that downloads will commence at 10 AM PST.”
We’ll tried earlier today to access the download site but links were not made available at that point in time. So we provided an email address within the Pledge form, but besides a thank-you reply no information on the download was received till now. Look’s like they are trying to stretch demand on their servers a bit across the day - good idea.
After the cut off time mentioned in the Mozilla forum post above (13:00 EST) neither site (download or forum) is reachable anymore and Mozilla.com is reporting “Http/1.1 Service Unavailable”
Let’s hope they will soon be able to balance the load and good luck with the record attempt.

We just succeeded to get through to the download site but it is still - not surprisingly - rather slow.

The SpreadFirefox website is now running normal and almost 1.5 Million downloads have been counted so far. When you’re downloading your copy don’t forget to collect your personalized Download Day certificate (via Flaunt it! in the sidebar) - Nice idea.

Setting the Guinness world record may be the stated goal of all this
activity, but in the end that’s only a novelty. The real show is the

Agreed with you that demonstrating to be able to mobilize millions of people to do something the same time is definitely a major part of this. But it also demonstrates that there is still some kind of bonding between the Firefox users.
I doubt that MS would have the same success if the would announce a IE download day (and won’t count the MS Windows automatic updates)
